Where do I buy gas gift-cards if not the gas station? I can't find gas cards. I would like to give them out at Christmas to certain people. Why would some retailers want cash for their gift cards? At walmart I could just throw in a gift card with my groceries and pay the whole thing by credit card. But at gas stations they will not let you pay for gift cards by credit card. Anyone have any guesses why? I imagine it has to do with people stealing credit cards and making fake ID's and visiting many gas stations and buying gift cards to sell on the streets. That is my only guess. Thieves know to stay away from stores like walmart since they even have cameras out in their parking lots. I really don't know - any ideas why? You can buy $150 worth of gas outside on a credit card without an ID, but try to buy a $25 gas gift card and you have to have cash. Explain please. How much should I put on a gas gift card? My boyfriend best friend had just graduated, and he did not get her anything ( they usually don't give gifts, just hang out on birthdays, christmas, etc). Some that people we know are giving out FREE $50 Visa Gift Cards to certain people, but some of us think that - especially these days with high gas prices - it would be better to give out $50 Gas Cards instead. To help me out my mother gets me Visa gift cards,American Express gift cards, gas station gift cards and sometimes starbucks or restaurant gift cards. She has been getting me these gift cards since 2006. These types of gift cards can be purchased at major drug and grocery stores such as Kroger, Safeway, Vons, Ralphs, CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid. For years I have never had a problem using a Visa gift card or American Express gift card anywhere. I have used them at several websites, restuarants and fast food places. Over the past year I have still never had a problem. But unfortunatley over the past year there have been some rare instances where independant non-chain restuarants and fast food places will refuse to accept a visa gift card or american express card for payment. This really upsets me! These Visa and American Express gift cards are like cash and should be accepted at any brick and morter establishment that accepts Visa and American Express. While 90-95% of the non-chain fast food and restaurants are willing to accpet these gift cards there are a few places that stubbornly will not accept these gift cards. I don't understand why? Back in May 2008 I went to a small italian cafe for dinner. When the check came I put an American Express gift card on the tray with the bill. When the waiter walked over and picked up the tray he said we don't accept American Express gift cards. I asked to speek to the manager. The manager lied to me and said that if they try to swipe the American Express gift card in their credit card terminal that I won't work. I told them to try it out. They swiped my American Express gift card and were unhappy about it. The manager told me that kids are making phoney Visa and American Express gift cards that get authoirized in their credit card machine and the restuarant doesn't get paid. I knew this was some sort of lie. In July 2009 I went into a small take out style pizza shop that was independantly owned. I ordered two slices and pizza, small salad and a soda. The owner mans the front cash register. I hand a Visa gift card to the owner to pay for my lunch. The owner says to me I don't think this Visa gift card works here. He asked me if it was a real Visa card or not. I told him to swipe the Visa gift card and it worked. He said he is worried that he won't get paid by the credit card company. A year later which happened to be tonight Wednessday July 7th,2010 I went to an independant non-chain restuarant which was a coffee shop type restuarant( like a Cocos, Freindlys, Dennys) type place. When the bill came and I put a Visa gift card that my mom just gave me last week on the tray the waitress said sorry we don't accept Visa gift cards or American Express gift cards. I asked to speak to the manager. He was very rude and told me that his restuarant has had problems with Visa gift cards and American Express gift cards in the past. He siad that is our policy sur! You can get a nice gas rebate gift card if you subscriber to Rogers internet/tv etc. If I just mail in the rebate for myself, is there any way they can find out? Are you a super creative gift giver? I need a little help to get my brain on the right track for a gift. My nephew will be 18 tomorrow. I need help with Teacher Appreciation Week, I have a lot of teachers, and I need help with gift ideas...? I go to a small charter/option schools, and the teachers here do a lot of work, to make our school different from all the rest. They work extremely hard, because it's an I.B. school. How many Marathon prepaid gas cards should I buy? I have a new Marathon MasterCard that gives me a 10% rebate at Marathon stations for the first 60 days. Why do people give gift cards? When someone doesn't know what to get for someone, they often get them a gift-card. Why not just send a check, say, the amount of what the card cost. It won't cost the giver an extra cent, and money is always nice! With money, I can buy what I want at what store I want when I want! Or if I want to at all! There are times when just having the money is better than a new DVD player or an Old Navy shirt! Gas and groceries ain't cheap these days! With a gift card, they sometimes expire, and of course you have to use them at certain stores - or, as in my case, I've gotten cards where the store it's for isn't even in my part of the country! Or is so far away from my home that it's not worth driving to. And if you don't want a gift card, you can seldom trade it in for cash. Even if you buy something with a gift card then return the item, you rarely get cash back, but instead the amount gets put back on the gift card, or you get some other kind of store credit.' So why not just give money But I've gotten gift cards for Old Navy - not only do I not shop there, but it's SO far away from my home that the price of the gas would exceed the value of the gift card. And 'Caribou Coffee'...they don't even *have* those in my part of the country! Better to suck up your pride and accept a kind donation than move into your new digs in a cardboard box under the freeway. And to 'Imagine': I'm glad you're financially secure, but last year there were times when I wasn't. I was a struggling student, burdened with too much work, too much school and not enough TIME or energy. I never missed rent or utility payments, but I was darn close! ...and during those times, I'd much rather have gotten some cash than a gift card!
prepay gas? I was told that people used to be able to purchase gas cards for a set amount of gallons at todays prices and use it towards gas in the future like a gift card. The price of gas never matters because you have already paid for the amount of gallons your getting. Does anyone know if this is something that gas stations still do?
