(Debit/Gift Cards) thinking that I would be able to somehow use them when purchasing airline tickets.... Like a "split tender" transaction. (Using more than one method of payment @ Checkout.) Generic Mastercard gift cards purchased in retail stores are great, except that most online merchants (or bill payees) require a billing zip code. Our small business was giving out small quantities of prepaid personalized "incentive" cards each month which worked perfectly... until recently when the company we were using to purchase these cards filed bankruptcy and left us with unfunded cards we'd already paid for. Since then I've been searching for an alternative but haven't found one. I spoke with a rep at a major company today who told me that the kind of card we WERE getting will now be hard to find because they aren't profitable for the issuers. What we're looking for doesn't have to be personalized or reloadable, but we need two features for sure: adjustable denominations & ability to verify cardholder information for online purchases or bill payment. Why the hell would they need more of my personal information from my credit report?! I am paying up front like a gift card, and in return they get my most confidential and sensitive info yet falsely advertise it's safer than cash? I don't think so.

Fake Prepaid Credit Cards? I own a small business and lately there have been a lot of customers coming up to me with these Prepaid "credit cards" (usually MasterCard) that are made of heavy paper instead of plastic and with no magnetic strip. They kind of look like greeting cards, except they have an account number and expiration date on them. Usually, these people try to purchase gift certificates from my store for the amount of $50 or more each. I have had to decline more than one sale because 1) these cards usually won't go through and 2) they look extremely shady. My question is: Does anyone know whether these are actually legitimate or if these people are trying to scam me? If they are fake, how would I go about reporting something like this?
