How can I get a job as a designer at a Greeting Card company?

I am a graphic designer graduate. I would like to work at a company like Hallmark or American Greetings. Does anyone know what kind of thing they look for so I can add it on my portfolio? Thanks

1. a lot of the time they do not employ a FT Designer, but will buy a design from a freelancer to use as they see fit
