prepaid gift cards still work?

on those prepaid gift cards that are like visa or mastercard. if you have no money on it but maybe a little change and try to use it will it still go through?or will it say insufficient funds?

1. it depends on the place. some places can take off what's left...some places you have to know how much you have on there. there's probably a phone number on the back of the card that you can call to get your balance.
2. you can only use it for the money you accually have on it.
