Can American Express gift cards be deposited into a bank account?

Just wanted to know if anyone has deposited money from an American Express gift card to their bank account? Is it possible?

1. No, it can't. It's not money.
2. The only way to do this is to get a cash advance on the gift card for the balance on it, and deposit it into your checking account. This isn't that easy though as many merchants do not accept AMEX for cash advance, however it is possible if you find one.
