can i use gift cards online ?

it asked me to enter my promotional card (if i have one) this is like discount card, does that mean i enter then pin on back of my gift card ? or can it only be used in stores ?

1. A promotional code is usually for coupons...don't enter anything there, and on the page for payment, it should have a gift card option, then you enter the code on the back. What store is it?
2. Every gift card a number on the back. The code could be one of two poss. XXXX or XXX-XXX-XXXX
