1. In my case, giving her something to b*tch about -- she's one of those people who refuse to be happy, no matter what...
2. if you have the time, make her a scrapbook about your family. Old birthday cards, pictures, etc. I made one and my mother cherished that. I put in a lock of my hair, baby pix, poetry my mom wrote, her handprint, etc.
3. I make a hamper of all the things she loves but doesn't buy for herself, like lemon marmalade, blackcurrant tea, cheeses and butter cookies
4. I'm getting my mother a spa day.
5. Yourself at home for Christmas.
