Is it rude to request gift cards for party?

I am going to have a birthday party for my 2 year old son and I am going to do like a combo of that and a Jack and Jill baby shower. Being I already have my son and he is only 2 and I am going to be having another boy I already have the majority of the things I need. The only things I need are the every expensive things. I am thinking about asking for gift cards for the baby shower to use towards the expensive things I need. Is that rude or is there a correct way to word it so it wont sound rude?

  1. yes it is and it might also turn people off and not show up at your party.
  2. tell them monetary gifts are the most necessary
  3. yes, it is very rude and rather crass. yuck. no, there is no way to make that sound even remotely polite.
  4. Yes it is rude. I would like to suggest you separate the two occasions. I will tell you though, that I have had parents of my daughter's friends do this very same thing and it kind of turned me off. They worded it like this B'day party for ___ blah blah time place etc. "Gift idea: wal-mart gift card, Joey is saving up for a computer!" See how it sounds - rude!
  5. First of all, no one should ever give themself a shower! This is even worse than asking for money or gift cards. And a birthday party for a 2 year old should only include very close relatives. You may be thrilled to death with your kid, but not everyone else is. Sorry, but you are stretching every rule of etiquette with this.
  6. 1) Its very rude to organise your own baby shower.....a baby shower is a decision by your friends to host a special event for you to prepare you for the birth of your child, this is like walking up to your grandfather and demanding $20 for seeing him....its up to him to give you money every time he sees you, ya cant just demand it. 2) Early birthday parties for children should be kept to close family relatives, esp if your relatives have kids around the same age, so they can interact while the parents can but their feet up while watching the kids all in the one place..... Using both events as a source of material gain is very, very bad manners.
