American Express gift cards on eBay?

Is there a reason why American Express gift cards are being sold for so much on eBay? I originally was doing a search for Express clothing gift cards, but these AmEx cards showed up and some had final bid amounts of 50%+ more than the actual value of the card. What gives?

1. You're right, it's nuts. The only reason I could think of is that people who don't have credit cards can buy them on eBay using paypal but I saw one auction for a 100 dollar card and the highest bid was 167.50??? Curiosity got me so I looked at the IDs of the bidders and the highest bidder's ID was always 5***S (they remove the middle letters/numbers to protect buyer's privacy). I'm almost 100% certain it's some kind of scam.
