How to start/ promote own artwork, greeting cards, T-shirts, etc.?

I have some illustrations that I've turned into seasonal greeting cards for personal friends. I'm always met with the same response: 'You're very talented and should go into business with your artwork'. So, how exactly does one start down this path, short of selling un-copyrighted work on eBay?

1. I would start with a website. Create a brand for yourself. Market yourself as an artist. Then I would check out some artist community sites. Like http//:www.etsy.com . There you can begin to market your products. But definitely start with your own website. I would suggest buying a domain name with your own name. It's like 10 bucks. Then find a free web site builder. Like webs, or wix. You can create an online store for your stuff, an online portfolio, a biography, a blog even.

Hmm if i were you i just make an account on deviantart.com its a website in which you can sell your prints online aswell as selling t-shirts and cards , you can also fix your own prices and everyones work is copyrights.. its a great website and is open to any style of artwork. http://www.deviantart.com/ normally an account is free but you can pay to get special privilages . then i guess you could start a from there. just take a look and see what you think.
3. Try Zazzle or Cafepress. They have tons of that type of thing in all types of themes. I have fun on them looking at patriotic designs. MMMM I wonder why lol.
