What does it mean to redeem a gift card, or prepaid cards?

1. To be able to use it. You just put in the code on the back of it (the part you scratch out) into the box where it says to put it on that website and then you should be able to use the money that's on there for whatever it's for. Most of the cards have step by step directions.
2. Generally, "Redeeming" something means trading it in for what it's worth; using it. For example, a $25 gift card for a game company can be "Redeemed" by giving them the code, and they will activate it (trading it for $25 in-game currency, or whatever the card is listed for).
