Can american express gift cards be used in Canada?

I went to one website, and it said that the card can only be used in the US. However, when i went to the Canadian version, it said that it can only be used in Canada. Is the card used in the US the same as the one able to be used in Canada? as in like if i went across the border could i also use it in Canada/US?

1. I'm pretty sure that the US card can only be used in the states and the Canadian one can only be used in Canada. You can verify that by calling the AMEX Customer Service line at 1-877-AXP-GIFT to speak to a representative
