What do you really think about receiving gift cards or money for your Christmas or Birthday present?
I don't like to go shopping, especially for other people. What do you really think about receiving gift cards or money for Christmas or your birthday? I'm just curious what others think. I personally like the idea of cash or a gift-certificate/gift card. Please state your age and gender, if you don't mind. I just want to get an idea of what different age groups think of this. I'm 54 and female!

- it is fun getting things I am 21
- 43 M Why didn't they give me a prepaid gift card so i could spend it on www.allemandis.com
- Best present ever because I get to pick out what I want myself. Some people will say giftcards have no meaning, but screw all that. With a giftcard/cash I can get exactly what I want instead of ending up with a pack of fruit of the loom underwear like my grandma always sends me, lol. She's been giving me that crap since I was a kid. 33/m
- I enjoy getting money or giftcards, but I also enjoy fun things. 15, female
- Never look a gift horse in the mouth is what I say. Gift cards are about as good as having someone give you cash. Then again, having someone give me cash is even better :D I've received numerous gift cards and have used them whenever the situation calls for....and sometimes just out of a whim to help offset a purchase. These days it's really hard to shop for people unless you already know what they want. Then again, what if they already have what you're going to buy? Sometimes a gift card can alleviate that problem. And it's not so much that the person wasn't thinking about you ( unless you know the person is a downright cheapskate ), it's more like they want to give you the money to buy what you want because they want you to be happy with what you've bought....even if you don't like to go shopping. I'm 33 and male.
- I love them, even prefer them from some people actually. You can never really go wrong with something like a mall gift card that lets a person shop in any of the stores at a mall. It can be seen as impersonal, but I think it's better than giving a gift someone may really not like. All the same I think it depends on who you're buying the gift card for. If its for a really close friend or family member, I think you owe them something more personal and thought out. Casual friends/family, not so much. :) I'm a 23 yr old female.
- Love receiving gifts and gift cards, I would rather someone get me a gift card than a gift that is not really me and would never be used, although I must state that anybody who went out of their way to buy a gift for me, the thought behind it would always be appreciated. I have no problem receiving a gift card or cash, the only problem is how much do you put in. Age 39 Female
