- They will work at some places. But Japan still has many places that accept only cash. You don't have to worry about getting your purse snatched in Japan like you do in many other countries though. http://traveljapanblog.com/wordpress/2009/08/changing-dollars-into-yen-2009-update/
- The only places that MIGHT accept those cards are international hotel chains. You won't be able to use them in local restaurants or convenience stores in Japan, and they will probably not work in the ATMs at Japanese Post offices. When traveling Japan, you need to carry about 20,000 yen on you. Luckily, Japan is the safest country in the world.
- You can use it at some medium and most high class resaturants and limited places without any problem but I recommend you to carry cash through ATM machines near you for every occasion you need to pay in Japan.
- If they're the Japanese visa gift cards then they'll normally be accepted anywhere that accepts visa credit cards. You'll see the familiar logo if they do. We normally use ours at Aeon or Ito-yo-kado, but we've also used them in a restaurant in Chinatown once. Most places don't accept credit cards though, so they don't accept the visa gift cards. If you mean visa gift cards that are not from Japan, it's unlikely you'll find anyone to accept them in Japan.
