Can someone tell me how a Walmart Gift Card works?

Someone tell me how a Walmart Gift card works. How do u know how much money the gift card holds. Do u know when u swipe the card. Some one tell me,

1. you bring your stuff to the register, pay with the card, and it should tell you on the bottom of the receipt.
2. The card works like a credit card except it has a limit. If you need the value ahead of time you can ask a cashier to scan the card and they can tell you the value, then go shopping. When you check out if you have a balance left that will be printed on the receipt.
