More than free or less than free?

I have a gift card from the store for $25. I paid nothing for the gift card. The flash card for the camera was marked $44.99, but rang up at $34.99. $10.00 discount. Used $25 Gift card. My cost was then $9.99. Receipt came out with an offer of a $15.00 rebate. Got flash card for nothing, plus $5.01. It's like the store gave me the flash card free, plus gave me $5.01. So, is it more than free, or less than free? My son and I are arguing about this. Thanks!

  1. OOOOOOOOOOOH this again? I tried to answer it but I don't know if I did it OK. Anyways, good luck with that because I don't really understand it. Sorry :(
  2. I would say that your purchase was free to you, and you got an extra 45.01 to boot. But the flash card was not "free" in the purest sense of the word as it did cost someone the $25.00 who gave you the gift card to begin with.
