How do I sell gift cards for my business?

I am opening a storefront in my city and I would like to sell gift cards for my products and services. How do I go about this? I want to design my own card, then sell it to my customer in any denomination they were looking for. What kind of hardward and software would I need? Can they be loaded and spent with a normal credit card machine?

1. Some merchant service providers offer customizable gift cards that you can provide to your clients. The only one I know for sure that does it is First Data. http://www.firstdata.com/
