Can you buy things online with those American Express gift cards you get in stores?

I just wanted to know if you can use the American Express gift cards or Visa gift cards online? You know, the ones they sell in places like supermarkets.

2. Yes I won one, it specifically suggested using it online. I am afraid to use it because it has a service charge and im not sure if i have to pay it or if the company that sent it to me as a gift already did that, and then it will start charging me after i don't use it for awhile, and i dont know if it has my information or theirs.. weird. But yes, it is a good thing for using online.
3. Yes, you can use them online as long as the place you are buying from accepts that type of card ... that is they must accept American Express or Visa, not 'gift cards' ... and most online stores do accept ALL cards ...

5. You can, but they are a total pain in the ass if you are planning to use more than one card per purchase. If I got another American Express gift card, I would sell it on eBay for a loss rather than deal with the hassle of trying to use it.
