Do American Express gift cards work on the PS3 Store?

I've heard that you can use American Express gift cards on the PS3 store, is it true?

1. yes it works because it's a credit card and you just type in the number
2. As long as it's got the full card numbers and expriation date. Any credit/debit card works.
